Claudia Simonelli

Msc. Electrical Engineering; PhD Candidate in Smart Industry
Bio:

Born in 1993, I grew up with a strong passion for mathematics and physics. In 2016, I obtained a Bachelor degree in Energy Engineering and, in September 2019, a Master's degree in Electrical engineering, both from the University of Pisa. I developed my Master's thesis working in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT in Boston. I obtained the title of Doctor of Research in 2023, with the thesis: "Development of Electromagnetic and Smart-materials-based devices for industrial applications." Between November 2022 and September 2023, I held a Research Fellowship (Borsa di Ricerca) titled: "Study of a high-frequency electromagnetic device with an amorphous material core." I am currently an Assistant Professor (RTD-a) in the Scientific Discipline ING-IND/31 at the School of Engineering of the University of Pisa.

Interessi:

Electromagnetic actuators, Sensors, Magnetorheological fluids, FEM modeling, Smart materials, Industrial Applications

Research Topic:

My research is focused on the development of electromagnetic and Smart material-based sensors and actuators for industrial applications. My goal is to design such devices by analyzing the requirements that the industry demands. Then, experimental tests performed on prototypes will assess the feasibility of their application in an industrial environment.

Other Activities:

In 2019 and 2022, I spent two periods abroad to perform research activities: at MIT in Boston in the group of Prof. Lynette Jones and at the University of Alcalá (Spain) in the group of Prof. Efren Diez-Jimenez. I have been a co-chair in a session of the IEEE AIM 2023 International Conference - Advances in Magnetics, have participated in several international conferences, and serve as a scientific reviewer for some international journals.
